We can help you determine what type of training is best suited for your situation and then work together to train your dog. Whether you want your dog to learn basic commands, show good house manners, walk appropriately on a leash, improve socialization skills, stop an annoying habit, respond better to Grandma Ruth, accept a new dog in the house, or just get started on the right foot, the ZCK trainers are ready to assist.
We strongly believe that individualized attention is the best way to successfully train your dog and so we forgo group classes and work 1-on-1 with you, your family, and your dog. We also know that each family, dog, and situation is unique and thus we customize a training plan to meet your needs so that you and your dog learn what you want, at your pace, on your schedule.
Our training methodology is based on reinforcing positive behavior by:
- laying a foundation of trust and discipline through repetition and praise
- reinforcing information with praise and appropriate correction
- exposing your dog to distractions that can otherwise quickly unravel learned behaviors

We’ll schedule a time for you to bring your dog to the training center and then determine where your dog is in his training, where you’d like for him to be, and how much training you’re willing and able to do on your own. Basic Obedience Dog Training
Our cornerstone is a 3-week training program that is founded in the belief that happy and well-behaved dogs have a core base of commands, manners, and understanding of their place in the family hierarchy. Many inappropriate actions can also be resolved by strengthening a dog’s foundational skills. This program is designed for dogs over 5 months of age and incorporates:
- leadership: structure, trust, respect
- manners training: yielding, sitting at doors, no jumping, no biting, etc.
- basic obedience: sit, down, heel, stay, recall/come, leave it, and others
- distraction training: noises, other dogs, environments, etc.
- socialization: with other dogs, people
We offer 2 approaches for basic obedience dog training:
Board & Train: Immerse your dog in training at our expansive pet facility. Your dog stays at ZCK for 3-weeks while a ZCK trainer works with your dog 3-4 times a day, 7 days a week to build a solid foundation of skills. During downtime your pooch can either relax in its own large climate-controlled indoor/outdoor runs or romp and socialize with other dogs in our Kennel Camp program. Owners attend private weekly transfer sessions to learn and practice the new handling skills that are needed once their dog returns home. Board & Train is a great option for pet owners with significant family/work/personal obligations that prevent them from consistently working with their dog each day, or for those who want their dog to start out on the right foot. Board & Train is also an excellent solution for dogs with specific issues that are best addressed outside the home, or if you have tried other training methods that just didn’t work.
Private Obedience Package: Covers the same foundational skills as Board & Train except the owner learns the handling skills in 4 private hour-long sessions and then conducts all training repetitions each day on their own. This approach works well for dogs that are extremely trainable/biddable, for dogs that have been previously exposed to some training, and for owners who are highly motivated to work with their dog.
Custom Training Packages We can customize our instruction and training approach to fit your needs, your dog, your schedule, and your budget. If you have a hectic schedule, family issues, health concerns, or travel frequently, we can work with you. Together we can create custom programs that will address most training issues.
Boarding+
Take advantage of the time that your pet is boarding at Zionsville Country Kennel. A ZCK trainer can work with your dog each day to refresh basic commands, target unwanted habits, get a jump start on new commands, or maintain what you’ve been working on at home. When you sign up for Boarding+ you know that your dog’s time spent at ZCK will have been filled with both physical and mental exercise.
